The 2008 Eilean an Fhraoich Cup Final was fought out by West Side and Lochs. Held in Barvas for the first time in 50 years, West Side came out on top 3-1 to win their first trophy in 58 years.

  From Atlanta to the ‘Poll-Mònach’
From Atlanta to the ‘Poll-Mònach’ - and a day to remember in the ‘peats’ for these young Americans who visited Barvas from 15-23 June 2008, as part of a YWAM team (Youth with a Mission). The group stayed with members of the Church of Scotland and engaged with community youth activities throughout the week.

‘Eaglais Laing’ (Laing’s Church)
Known locally as ‘Eaglais Laing’ (Laing’s Church) after Rev Laing who once ministered here at what was the ‘Established’ Church.  Located at the far north-east end of Upper Barvas, the church spire was knocked down and the building has been used as a domestic residence for some time.

The Church of Scotland, Lower Barvas, which was built in 1910, and opened on the 16th of September that year.

21 May 2008 - Work gets underway at Cròic Pool to repair the damage caused by last Winter/Spring storms. Pictured above, a Duncan Mackay & Sons, Ballantrushal, digger clearing stones, shingle and rubble. Water levels are currently very low but fishermen remain hopeful of a good fishing season!
